In a move that has caught many consumers off guard, Nigeria’s food safety regulator has issued a strong warning over a popular noodle product widely consumed across the country.
The National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has alerted Nigerians to safety concerns surrounding Indomie noodles vegetable flavour.
The warning followed a recall notice issued by a foreign food safety authority, raising concerns about undeclared ingredients that could pose serious health risks.
Although the product is not officially imported into Nigeria, authorities say vigilance is still necessary.
According to NAFDAC, the recall was triggered by a notification from the French food safety agency, Rappel Conso.
The agency flagged the product for containing allergens that were not listed on the label.
This discovery, therefore, prompted immediate regulatory attention in Nigeria.
In a statement released to the public, NAFDAC explained that the affected Indomie noodles vegetable flavour carries a best before date of 06/02/2026.
Moreover, the product was found to contain milk and eggs, substances that were not declared on its packaging.
This omission, the agency noted, could be dangerous for people living with food allergies or intolerances. Consequently, the alert was issued as a precautionary public health measure.
NAFDAC stated that the risk of the product entering Nigeria remains low due to the Federal Government’s ban on noodle importation.
However, the agency warned that illegal routes such as online shopping platforms and international travel could still allow the product into the country.
“As a precautionary measure, the agency said it has intensified surveillance nationwide and directed all zonal directors and state coordinators to monitor markets and remove the product if found.”
In addition, distributors and retailers were advised to avoid selling or supplying the affected noodles.
Consumers were also urged to remain alert and refrain from consuming the product under any circumstances.
NAFDAC further encouraged members of the public who may already have the product to discard it immediately.
The agency stressed in its notice:
“Public Alert No. 041/2025 – Recall of Indomie Brand Noodles (Vegetable Flavour Product) due to the Presence of Undeclared Allergens (Milk and Eggs).”It added:
“The National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) is informing the public that the French Authority (Rappel Conso of France) issued a notice regarding a recall of Indomie brand Noodles Vegetable Flavour product.”Furthermore, the statement clarified that the recall was due to “the presence of undeclared allergens, specifically milk and eggs, which may pose a significant health risk to consumers with allergies or intolerances.”
This Indomie noodles recall in Nigeria highlights growing concerns around global food safety and cross-border product movement. Therefore, NAFDAC reaffirmed its commitment to protecting public health through active monitoring and swift response.
