Kano Govt Moves Against Ganduje Over Controversial Militia Plan

The Kano State Government has made a surprising call for the arrest of former governor Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje over what it described as a move to create a Kano illegal militia.

The announcement came shortly after Ganduje revealed his intention to set up a Hisbah-like voluntary outfit linked to the Ganduje Foundation.

The demand, was issued after the State Executive Council meeting held at the Government House.

Moreover, the statement marked one of the strongest positions taken by the state government on recent security debates.

Speaking to journalists, the Commissioner for Information and Home Affairs, Ibrahim Waiya, said the council was alarmed by comments made by Ganduje and Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin.

According to him, both leaders suggested that Kano faced possible attacks from bandits and therefore required recruiting 12,000 youths into a new group to be called Khairul Nas.

Waiya stressed that the council viewed the remarks as “inciting, reckless, and capable of undermining the security efforts of the Kano State Government and that of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.”

Furthermore, he explained that the timing of the comments raised deeper concerns.

He noted that suspected bandits were reported in some border communities less than 48 hours after the statements were made.

Therefore, the council felt the incident could not be ignored, even though investigations are still ongoing.

The development also reignited discussions about Wace-related security coordination within the region.

“Council reaffirmed its appreciation to the Federal Government and security agencies for their sustained support in securing the state and therefore called for the immediate investigation and arrest of the former Governor for attempting to create an illegal militia group,” Waiya said.

In addition, the commissioner urged political figures to avoid statements that may heighten tension.

He added that leaders must exercise caution because their words influence public behaviour, especially during sensitive periods.

Meanwhile, he assured residents that security operations will continue across the state.

He said the government remains committed to protecting lives and property while addressing every threat linked to the alleged Kano illegal militia plan.
