A Peruvian clinic that treated Colombian mega-star Shakira earlier this year has come under heavy fire after breaching her medical privacy.
The Delgado Auna Clinic, a private hospital in Lima, has now been fined nearly \$190,000 following an official investigation into the leak of her medical information.
The 48-year-old global singer was hospitalized in February with an abdominal issue.
Though the ailment was not made public at the time, her health details surfaced online just days after the incident.
That leak triggered backlash from fans and global concern over data security in Peru’s health system.

Susalud, the regulatory body that oversees Peru’s healthcare sector, confirmed on Wednesday that a fine of 668,750 soles (about \$188,355) had been issued to the Delgado Clinic.
The agency described the case as a “serious violation” of privacy, stating that “all patients are entitled to dignity and intimacy.”
According to the clinic, they had launched an internal investigation shortly after the leak.
The Peruvian clinic, which serves high-profile clients and is located in Lima’s upscale Miraflores district, is also known for its luxurious facilities including a rooftop helipad.
However, this latest controversy has left a dent in its reputation, especially as it handles many high-profile cases.
