Ogun Government Condemns Portable’s Attack on Officials, Calls for Change

The Ogun State government has strongly condemned Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, for allegedly assaulting government officials carrying out their lawful duties.

The state described his actions as barbaric and unacceptable, emphasizing that no individual, regardless of status, is above the law. Kayode Akinmade, Special Adviser to Governor Dapo Abiodun on Information and Strategy, stated on Friday that Portable has repeatedly disrespected authorities, making it necessary for legal action to be taken.

According to Akinmade, the latest incident occurred in the Iyana-Ilogbo area, where Portable and his associates allegedly attacked officials of the Ogun State Planning and Development Permit Authority (OGPDPA).

He criticized the singer’s behavior, saying, “We are profoundly taken aback by the unpleasant and uncivil act of the Hip-hop artiste, Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable.”

Furthermore, he described the incident as a “confirmation of erosion of Omoluabi ethos” and a disgrace to the state.

Meanwhile, the government has assured that Portable’s actions will be addressed in line with the law.

In addition, Akinmade stressed that Governor Dapo Abiodun condemns such primitive and indecent behavior.

He reiterated that anyone who disregards the law will face consequences, regardless of their influence.

“Governor Dapo Abiodun totally condemned this primitive and indecent act and is ready to make any individual flouting the extant law of the land face the full wrath of the law,”he declared.

Meanwhile, Portable’s actions have raised concerns over the importance of charisma and respect in society, as public figures are expected to serve as role models rather than incite violence.

Moreover, the situation has already led to legal consequences for some individuals involved.

On Thursday, nine of Portable’s protégés were arraigned before a Magistrates’ Court in Isabo, Abeokuta.

They were accused of assaulting officers from the Ota Zonal Planning Office of the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development.

Therefore, the Ogun State government has reaffirmed its commitment to upholding the law, stating that such incidents must not be repeated.

It has also urged Portable to adopt a more responsible approach, as his influence should be used for positive impact rather than controversy.
