California faced a new challenge. Friday morning, January 10, as a 3.7 magnitude earthquake struck near the San Francisco Bay area while the state continued battling deadly wildfires in Los Angeles County.
The quake, detected at 7:02 AM PT, occurred three miles east of the San Francisco Zooat a depth of 8.4 kilometers, according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). 
Fortunately, no injuries or damages have been reported in connection with the seismic activity.
However, it added to the unease across the state as devastating wildfires, located about 350 miles south in Los Angeles, have killed at least 10 people, displaced 180,000 residents, and destroyed over 10,000 homes and structures.
San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie addressed the situation in a statement, emphasizing his administration’s swift response to the earthquake.
“I promised to make the safety of San Franciscans my first priority as mayor, and I am keeping that promise today with this morning’s earthquake,” Lurie stated.
He added, “I ordered city government into action immediately this morning, and our first responders have been out across the city ensuring the safety of our residents.”
Meanwhile, wildfires in Los Angeles County have wreaked havoc, prompting widespread evacuations and challenging first responders working tirelessly to contain the flames.
Although the earthquake caused no immediate harm, the simultaneous disasters highlight California’s vulnerability to natural calamities.
Experts are closely monitoring the situation as residents across both affected regions remain on high alert.
The California Emergency Management Agency has reiterated its call for preparedness, urging residents to ensure they have safety plans and access to emergency supplies.
