Social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has called for the cancellation of South African singer Tyla’s planned concert in Lagos.
The activist warned concert promoters against going ahead with the event. Moreover, he said the planned show should not hold while concerns over the treatment of Nigerians in South Africa remain unresolved.
Meanwhile, some Nigerians have also called for a boycott of the event, arguing that more should be done to address xenophobic violence.
In a video shared on his official Facebook page on Thursday, VDM said the concert should not proceed because of what he described as continued attacks on Nigerians in South Africa.
He also appealed directly to the event organisers and promoters.
“There will be no Tyla concert in Nigeria. It is not happening. This is a warning to the organizers and the show promoters bringing Tyla to Nigeria. That show is not happening.”
According to him, the issue goes beyond music and entertainment. He argued that Nigerians should stand in solidarity with fellow Africans who have experienced xenophobic attacks.
VDM also referred to the ongoing legal situation involving Chidinma Adetshina in South Africa.
“Not when Chidinma Adetshina is battling deportation in South African court. Now you want to bring in Tyla and sell tickets so that Tyla will make money off Nigerians. The same Nigerians that South Africans hate so much.”
Furthermore, he warned that protesters could disrupt the concert if organisers ignored his appeal.
“This is a warning to you, if you go ahead with that show, we will come to the venue and we will bring the show down.”
Meanwhile, Tyla’s management recently announced her world tour schedule, which includes a performance in Lagos on December 22, 2026.
