UNIZIK Student Dies After Allegedly Being Denied Medication Over Hostel Policy

A heartbreaking incident has rocked the Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, following the tragic death of a female law student, Ajana Chioma Isabella.

Her passing has stirred outrage across social media and campus communities, raising serious concerns about student welfare and the handling of medical emergencies.

According to circulating reports, Isabella, a known diabetic, lost her room key and sought access to retrieve her medication.

However, the management of her hostel reportedly denied her a spare key unless she paid a significant fine, citing a strict no-exemption policy for lost keys.

This policy enforcement allegedly delayed her access to life-saving insulin, leading to a medical crisis.

She reportedly went into hypoglycemic shock and was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.

Despite efforts to revive her, she passed away a few days later.

A source familiar with the situation noted, “It’s not about the policy anymore. This was a medical emergency. Someone’s life was at stake.”

Furthermore, students and activists are now calling on the school to overhaul policies that prioritize fines over student health.

They believe the death of the young law student highlights a broader issue of insensitivity to emergencies in student housing systems.

As of the time of this report, Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) has yet to release an official statement regarding the incident.

Moreover, tributes have continued to pour in on social media, as classmates, friends, and sympathizers mourn the loss of a promising young woman who had her entire future ahead of her.

“She didn’t deserve to die this way,” one user posted. “Policies should never cost someone their life.”
