Tension in Kogi as Armed Men Storm Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s Home Again, Suspect Apprehended

A fresh wave of violence hit the family home of Kogi Central Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan on Tuesday night, marking the second such assault within two months.

The attack, which took place at her Ihima residence in Okehi Local Government Area, ended abruptly when the community sprang into action.

Reports reveal that the gunmen vandalized windows and tried to force entry before officers from the Kogi State Police, community vigilantes, and local youths drove them away.

One suspect, identified as Jose Suberu, was arrested at the scene.

“Yes it’s true and one suspect, Jose Suberu was arrested at the scene. Efforts are on to arrest the fleeing others,” confirmed SP William Aya, Kogi State Police spokesman, in an interview with Punch.

According to the senator’s media office, Suberu is from the local community and has confessed to participating in three previous attacks on their home.

Described as a ritualist in official notes, he was nearly lynched by an enraged mob before authorities secured him.

A cutlass and charms were recovered from the suspect, raising questions about the motives behind these assaults.

“However, with the swift intervention of officers from the local police station, community vigilantes, and concerned youths, the attackers were repelled and one suspect was apprehended.”

“A cutlass and charms were recovered from him. Other suspects involved in the attack, reportedly armed with dangerous weapons, remained at large at press time.”

Armed assaults on a public servant’s home are deeply troubling especially when repeated.

Only two months ago, the same family compound endured a similar attack.

Then, no arrests were made. Tuesday’s arrest marks a breakthrough, yet local residents remain anxious, and the full motive remains unclear.

SP Aya confirmed the investigation is active and thorough.

He stated authorities are gathering evidence and pursuing the attackers still at large. For now, Suberu faces questioning over his alleged role.
