Police Avert NURTW Clash in Abuja, Arrest Seven Suspects

Tension gripped Abuja early Sunday after a violent confrontation was prevented at the NURTW headquarters in Garki II.

The FCT Police Command swiftly intervened, restoring calm and arresting several suspects linked to the incident.

According to officials, the disturbance began around 7:00 a.m. when a large group stormed the premises.

The individuals were reportedly armed with dangerous items, raising fears among residents and nearby businesses.

However, security operatives were quickly deployed, ensuring that the situation was contained before it spiraled.

Meanwhile, the Police have dismissed viral claims suggesting that officers opened fire on union members.

Authorities described such reports as false and misleading, stressing that no shootings occurred during the operation.

The FCT Police NURTW clash was said to have started when about 300 individuals entered the premises.

They allegedly attempted to enforce a court order without proper legal backing.

A statement from the Command explained the response in clear terms.

It noted that, “a distress call was received by the FCT Police Command reporting that about 300 individuals, armed with cutlasses, bottles, bows, and arrows, had stormed the NURTW headquarters.” This prompted immediate action from law enforcement officers.


Furthermore, the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations led the response team to the scene. Upon arrival, the officers assessed the situation and moved quickly to restore order.

During the clash, one victim sustained serious injuries and was rushed to the hospital. In addition, others with minor wounds were also treated. The police confirmed that medical attention was promptly provided, preventing further complications.

Moreover, normal activities have gradually resumed in the area, offering relief to residents and business owners.
