The defender said the players are focused and determined to secure maximum points as they aim to keep their qualification hopes alive.

The encounter is one of the most anticipated games in Group C, as the three-time African champions fight to stay in contention for a spot at the next World Cup.

Currently, Éric Chelle’s side sits third in the group with 14 points from nine matches, trailing leaders South Africa and Rwanda.

However, Troost-Ekong admitted during a press conference that their qualification chances are not entirely in their hands.

He emphasized, though, that the Super Eagles remain focused on doing their part on the field.
“There are players here who want to make names for themselves, and those who will want their names to go down well in history,” Troost-Ekong said.

“So, they are fully prepared and will play to win. Tomorrow may not be 100 per cent in our hands, but we try to do our best and win the match.”

According to him, every player is aware that this game could define their journey to the 2026 World Cup.

Meanwhile, head coach Éric Chelle has reportedly fine-tuned his tactics in training sessions to ensure a strong start against a resilient Benin Republic side.

The match is expected to test Nigeria’s attacking depth, with key forwards like Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman likely to lead the line.
