New revelations from Suge Knight have emerged about what followed Tupac Shakur’s death, including a surprising ritual involving the rapper’s ashes.
The disclosures were made in a phone interview with People, conducted while Knight is serving time in prison.
According to Knight, Tupac was cremated on the wishes of his mother, Afeni Shakur, soon after his passing.
Knight revealed that the cremation cost exceeded \$1 million in cash to hasten the process.
“A bag with his ashes was passed around. His homies rolled him up. They smoked him,” Knight said, explaining that the act was symbolic.
“I was so happy to say I was on probation — I couldn’t smoke. I told his mother, ‘Moms, I’d love to, but if I hit that, I’ll get in trouble.’ I was probably the only one who didn’t hit him.”

Knight shared that Tupac was hit by four bullets while he suffered a grazing wound to the head.
“I had to go over there bleeding everywhere, take the seat belt off him,” Knight recalled, describing his actions to pull Tupac from the car despite their injury.
Tupac was rushed to the University Medical Center of Southern Nevada, where he underwent several surgeries.
In addition, one lung was removed before he was eventually pronounced dead on September 13, 1996, at the age of 25.
Despite decades of conjecture, his murder remained unsolved until September 2023, when Duane ‘Keefe D’ Davis a former gang leader was arrested in connection with the shooting.
Davis has pleaded not guilty and is awaiting trial in February 2026.
