President Buhari dissolves Unilag Governing Council, Reinstates Ogundipe as VC

The Governing Council that suspended the Vice Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Prof Oluwatoyin Ogundipe in August have been dissolved and Ogundipe reinstated as VC.

The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari has reinstated the suspended Vice Chancellor of the University of Lagos (Unilag), Prof Oluwatoyin Ogundipe.

Prof Ogundipe was suspended by the now dissolved Governing Council headed by Dr Wale Babalakin.

Ogundipe was accused of misappropriation of funds and abuse of office at the time.

The announcement of his return as VC was disclosed in a statement by a spokesperson for the Ministry of Education, Ben Gooong, on Wednesday the 11th of November 2020.

According to Ben Gooong’s statement, “The Vice Chancellor was not granted an opportunity to defend himself on the allegations upon which his removal was based. He should accordingly be reinstated.”
