Popular Nigerian actor and comedian Olarenwaju James Omiyinka famously called Baba Ijesha regains freedom after more than three years behind bars.
His release was confirmed by actor Yomi Fabiyi in an Instagram post on November 14, 2025.
The news caught many fans off guard, especially since his case had been one of the most followed in Nollywood.
Fabiyi’s post stated that the Appeal Court had cleared the actor of the defilement charge.
Meanwhile, conversations about the long legal battle resurfaced across social media.
The case had drawn huge attention back in 2022 when Baba Ijesha was sentenced to 16 years for several offences.
Moreover, the ruling came after months of heated debate among actors, activists, and the public.
At the time, many felt the case would remain closed for years. However, the appeal judgment shifted the narrative again.

Fabiyi, who had followed the case closely, shared strong comments in his latest post.
He described the entire process as a “charade”, insisting that “there was no evidence the girl was 14 at the time of the incident.”
He also repeated claims he had raised during the trial.
Furthermore, he accused Princess, the girl’s foster mother, of grooming the minor and installing cameras, which he called “child pornography.”
These claims had fuelled intense arguments during the early stages of the case.
In addition, Fabiyi stated that another associate, Damola Adekola, was once arrested and later released.
He alleged that the associate had a sexual relationship with the teenager.
His comments reopened old wounds within the industry, and many recalled how sharply divided Nollywood was during the trial.

The accusation of rape had originally come from a 14-year-old girl who lived under Princess’ care.
Princess later went public with the case and released clips that stirred wide criticism.
Therefore, the matter moved to court and became one of the most discussed cases of that year.
Notably, although the defilement charge was dismissed during appeal, other convictions were reportedly upheld.
The actor’s release has now set off new discussions about justice, accountability, and public trials.
Baba Ijesha’s supporters believe the updated ruling offers relief.
His critics, however, still question the entire process.
