Mr Macaroni Stands His Ground Amid Sanwo-Olu Greeting Controversy

Popular Nigerian actor and activist, Mr Macaroni, has once again found himself in the spotlight after refusing to greet Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, at a public event.

The incident, which occurred in December 2023, has continued to spark heated debates on social media.

Despite facing criticism, the entertainer has reaffirmed his stance, stating that even if given another chance, he would still not greet the governor.

The controversy resurfaced after a lawyer called out Mr Macaroni on X (formerly Twitter), referencing a recent viral video where another entertainer was seen respectfully engaging with Governor Sanwo-Olu at a function.

Reacting to this, Mr Macaroni dismissed the backlash, emphasizing that he remains firm in his decision.

“This is the last time I will address this matter. It is not worth my peace of mind. Since you people won’t stop attacking me because I didn’t greet Governor Sanwo-Olu, next time I see him, I still won’t greet him.

And this time, even if he calls me, I won’t answer. You people will cry today, tomorrow, and forever,” he posted on X.

The situation has drawn mixed reactions, with some Nigerians supporting Mr Macaroni’s position while others argue that his refusal to acknowledge the governor is unnecessary.

However, the actor has remained vocal about his views on governance and human rights, criticizing those who defend politicians instead of holding them accountable.

“The people are suffering! The price of everything is up. Instead of you people to hold your leaders accountable, you are busy kissing their bumbum,” he added.

Meanwhile, some analysts suggest that the rift between Mr Macaroni and Governor Sanwo-Olu may be rooted in past events, particularly the actor’s strong opposition to the handling of the EndSARS protests.

The actor has been an outspoken critic of police brutality and governance failures, making his refusal to engage with the governor unsurprising to his supporters.

For now, Mr Macaroni remains steadfast in his position, emphasizing that his decision is a matter of principle.

Whether or not this situation will escalate further remains to be seen, but it is clear that his actions have sparked important conversations about governance, leadership, and public accountability in Nigeria.
