A sudden Yaba market fire Lagos incident has left traders counting heavy losses after a massive blaze tore through the popular market overnight.
The fire, which started in the early hours, quickly spread across several sections, destroying goods worth millions of naira.
The shocking incident reportedly began around 3 a.m., catching many traders off guard. Moreover, several shops were consumed before help could fully contain the flames. Thick smoke was seen rising into the sky, while panic spread across the area.
However, despite the scale of the fire, no official cause has been confirmed by authorities as of the time of reporting.
Eyewitnesses described a chaotic scene as the fire intensified. Goods were being rushed out in haste by traders and residents nearby. Meanwhile, some individuals were seen trying to save what they could before the flames spread further.
According to a witness, Lugar Feliz, who spoke during a TikTok livestream, firefighters had already arrived at the scene. The fire was said to have started around the Popo section of the market.
In addition, several videos shared online showed how quickly the situation worsened.
Social media users were among the first to alert the public about the incident. Their posts highlighted the urgency and severity of the situation.
One user wrote, “BREAKING: Yaba Market on Fire since yesterday Night. Details later.” Another user posted, “Yaba on Fire, fire outbreak since 1 am.” Meanwhile, another described it as “a terrible fire outbreak in Yaba right now.”
Firefighters were deployed to the scene and efforts were made to control the blaze. However, the extent of the damage is still being assessed. It is expected that more details will be released soon.
