Residents of Ikorodu may soon witness tighter security presence after the Lagos State Police Command unveiled a new tactical security team to tackle rising criminal activities in the area.
The special unit, named the “Command Sweepers Squad,” was introduced following growing complaints from residents about robbery attacks, violence, and other security threats across Ikorodu and nearby communities.
The crackdown is expected to strengthen rapid police response and increase intelligence-led operations in crime-prone areas.
According to the Lagos State Police Command, the Squad was created as a temporary intervention force aimed at reducing criminal activities and improving safety.
The initiative was introduced under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai.
Police authorities explained that the squad would focus on crime prevention, emergency response, and tactical raids across black spots identified within Ikorodu.
Furthermore, the command disclosed that operatives have already been deployed to strategic locations to begin operations.
The Squad includes officers from several tactical units within the command.
These include the Rapid Response Squad, Eko Strike Force, and Police Mobile Force units.

Personnel from other security agencies and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force are also participating in the operation.
According to the statement, the security outfit has been stationed in Ijede for easier movement across Ikorodu and surrounding communities.
The command noted that the location would improve response time during emergencies and ongoing patrol activities.
Moreover, the squad has been equipped with patrol vehicles and Armoured Personnel Carriers donated by the Lagos State Security Trust Fund.
Police said operatives would carry out intelligence-based raids, stop-and-search duties, and confidence-building patrols.
Authorities also assured residents that the operations would be conducted professionally and within the law.
“The Squad is a temporary intervention security outfit specifically established to curb criminality, restore public confidence, and enhance rapid response operations within the affected areas,” the statement said.
In addition, the command urged residents to support security agencies with useful information that could help ongoing operations.
The police also encouraged the public to remain alert and report suspicious activities immediately.
