IGP Disu Shuffles Police Leadership, Deploys New Commissioners to 8 States

The Nigeria Police Force is set for a fresh leadership shift across eight states and several key formations.

Inspector General of Police Olatunji Disu approved the new postings after receiving clearance from the Police Service Commission.

The move comes as the police leadership pushes to improve security operations, intelligence work and community policing nationwide.

The new commissioners will take charge of Abia, Plateau, Bayelsa, Cross River, Anambra, Edo, Jigawa and Delta commands.

Those appointed are Afolabi Olutokunbo for Abia and Ayodeji Faniyan for Plateau.

Others include Saka Ajao for Bayelsa, Ajo Ordue for Cross River and Nanna Ama for Anambra.

Patrick Daaor will lead the Edo Command, while Tani Murtala takes charge in Jigawa.

Samuel Erale has also been posted to head the Delta State Police Command.

Police spokesperson Ani Iniedu said the IGP Disu police deployment is designed to improve leadership and strengthen ongoing reforms.

He said the changes also cover important operational and administrative positions within the Force.

Yemi Oyeniyi, a commissioner of police, has been moved to the Intelligence and Training Department of the Force Intelligence Department.

Charles Dike will take charge of INTERPOL at the Force Criminal Investigation Department.

Other senior officers were posted to units handling terrorism, human trafficking, fraud and general investigations.

The redeployments also affect finance, welfare, inspectorate, training and development departments.

The police leadership expects the new postings to strengthen intelligence-led policing and improve responses to security threats.

Disu also directed the affected officers to promote professionalism and build stronger ties with communities.

They were further reminded to protect lives and property while maintaining discipline and accountability.

The IGP Disu police deployment signals another leadership adjustment as the Nigeria Police Force seeks better operational results.

The officers are expected to bring their experience to their new commands and specialised assignments.

The changes will also test the ability of the new commanders to respond to local security concerns.
