Tension has risen in northeastern Nigeria after a controversial airstrike reportedly hit a busy market in Jilli.

The Yobe State Government has defended the operation, insisting it targeted a Boko Haram stronghold. However, eyewitnesses claim that a crowded market was struck instead.
According to emerging reports, over 100 people are feared dead, although no official toll has been confirmed.

In its initial response, the government maintained that the strike was part of ongoing counterterrorism operations.
Officials stated that intelligence had identified the location as a gathering point for insurgents.
Therefore, authorities also stressed that the target area lies within neighbouring Borno State.
