Nigeria’s Falconets have reached the quarter-finals of the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in style.
The young Nigerians defeated England 3-0 in their Round of 16 clash in Bielsko-Biała, Poland.
Tosin Rafiu gave Nigeria a dream start with the opening goal in the eighth minute.
England later got a big chance to level the match from the penalty spot.
However, Falconets captain Christiana Uzoma kept Nigeria ahead with an important save.
She stopped Rachel Maltby’s penalty and helped the team take a 1-0 lead into halftime.
Nigeria returned strongly after the break and quickly increased the pressure, Janet Akekoromowei doubled the Falconets’ lead just two minutes into the second half.
Mary Mamudu then completed the scoring in the 73rd minute. Her goal sealed a comfortable win and sent Nigeria into the last eight.
The victory marks another strong turnaround for Moses Aduku’s team. Nigeria began the tournament with a 2-0 loss to Spain and a goalless draw against China.
The Falconets responded with a huge 10-1 win over New Caledonia. They finished second in Group F with four points before facing England.
Nigeria will face either Poland or Colombia in the next round.
However, the Falconets World Cup quarter-finals appearance keeps their title hopes alive.
