Residents of Ebute Meta heaved a sigh of relief after a suspected notorious cultist and armed robbery suspect was arrested during a swift police operation in Lagos.
The arrest followed a distress call from concerned residents who reported that a young man was allegedly harassing passers-by and causing fear within the community.
Consequently, police operatives moved quickly to the scene and carried out an operation that led to the suspect’s arrest.
During the operation, a locally made pistol, one live cartridge, and local charms were recovered. The discovery has raised fresh concerns about the activities of criminal groups operating within residential areas. However, residents have praised the rapid response that prevented the situation from escalating further.
According to the Lagos State Police Command, the suspect was identified as 22-year-old Odeshola Afeez. He was arrested after officers responded to information provided by members of the public.
The command disclosed that a thorough search was conducted after his arrest. As a result, the weapon and other items were found concealed in his possession.
Police sources revealed that intelligence gathered during the investigation linked the suspect to cult-related activities within the area. Meanwhile, efforts are being intensified to determine whether other individuals are connected to the case.
In a statement released by the command, authorities said: “The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a notorious cultist and suspected armed robber following a swift response to a distress call from members of the public.”

The statement further explained that officers acted immediately after receiving information that “a young man was harassing passers-by and causing panic within the community.”
Moreover, the command noted that a search led to the recovery of “a locally made pistol, one cartridge and local charms concealed in his possession.”
Investigators also stated that “the suspect is a notorious cultist who had allegedly been terrorising residents and engaging in activities capable of disturbing public peace.”
The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, commended the officers involved in the operation. In addition, he reaffirmed the command’s commitment to fighting cultism, armed robbery, and other violent crimes across Lagos State.
