NCDC Raises Alarm Over Two Suspected Ebola Cases in North-East

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has raised concern over two suspected Ebola cases in Nigeria’s North-East region. The two individuals have been isolated as health officials begin laboratory tests to determine whether they have the virus.

The development has prompted contact tracing efforts, while the NCDC has urged Nigerians to remain calm until test results are available. In an update released on Saturday, the agency said health authorities were identifying and listing people who might have had contact with the suspected cases.

However, the NCDC warned against treating the reports as confirmed infections before laboratory investigations are completed.

“Being classified as suspected cases does not mean they are confirmed Ebola cases; confirmation is subject to laboratory results,” the agency said.

The statement means the two individuals have not been confirmed to have Ebola. Their status will depend on the outcome of the tests. While investigations continue, the NCDC has advised Nigerians to maintain good hygiene and follow public health guidelines.

The agency recommended regular handwashing and proper sanitation to help reduce the risk of spreading infections. It also urged residents to avoid spreading unverified reports about the suspected Ebola cases. Instead, the public should rely on official updates from health authorities.

For now, the agency’s update confirms that investigations are ongoing.
