Fire Engulfs Iran Aluminium Plant, Officials Reveal Cause of Smoke

Smoke and possible flames rising from a major Iranian aluminium plant have sparked concerns about a possible explosion.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, October 20, at the Iranian Aluminium Company (IRALCO) facility in Arak.

Footage shared online showed smoke rising from the industrial site, prompting reports of a possible explosion.

However, Arak Governor Abdoreza Hajialibeigi rejected claims of an explosion.

He said the smoke and steam resulted from a technical fault, not an attack or sabotage.

According to the governor, an electrical fault and voltage changes caused the disruption at the facility.

Iranian state media reported no casualties or security-related problems linked to the incident.

The disruption reportedly affected Line 6, an area used for aluminium production.

Reports also indicated that around 60 smelting pots had stopped operating.

The reported shutdown has raised questions about possible production losses at one of Iran’s major aluminium plants.

However, officials have not confirmed the full extent of the damage or how long repairs might take.

Some reports pointed to electricity shortages, reduced current and a lack of anode materials used in aluminium production.

However, the exact cause has not been independently confirmed.

Aluminium smelting requires a steady electricity supply and carefully controlled operating conditions.

Power disruptions can affect production equipment and lead to costly repairs.

However, available information has not confirmed the type or level of emissions released from the facility.

Despite online speculation, there is no confirmed evidence that an explosion, deliberate sabotage or an attack caused the incident.
