Nigerian-Born Pilot Rejected Five Times Before Making Aviation History

Born without hands or feet, Zack Anglin has achieved what many once considered impossible.

His journey from Nigeria to the cockpit has made him an inspiring figure in aviation.

Anglin was later adopted by an American family and raised in Wisconsin, despite the challenges he faced, he remained determined to pursue his dreams.

His love for flying began during childhood trips to the airport with his father, watching planes take off and land sparked a dream of becoming a pilot.

When Anglin began pursuing aviation, several flight schools reportedly rejected him, at just 18, he approached more than a dozen schools before finding an opportunity.

Spartan College of Aeronautics and Technology in Tulsa, Oklahoma, eventually gave him a chance to train.

However, gaining approval to fly remained another major challenge.

He had to convince the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) that he could operate an aircraft safely, and Anglin reportedly faced five rejections before receiving permission to demonstrate his abilities.

Rather than abandon his goal, he continued working towards his dream; his determination eventually paid off in 2019.

That year, Anglin earned his commercial pilot certification; he became widely recognised as the world’s first quadruple amputee licensed commercial pilot and flight instructor.

His achievement showed how persistence and the right opportunity can help people overcome barriers.

It also challenged assumptions about who can pursue a career in aviation.

Anglin did not stop after earning his certification; he returned to Spartan College, the institution that had given him an opportunity, to work as a flight instructor.

His decision allowed him to share his aviation knowledge with others while continuing his own journey in flying.

The story of Zack Anglin, the Nigerian-born pilot, highlights the importance of determination, opportunity, and challenging limits.

His path was not easy, but he continued despite repeated setbacks. Today, his achievement stands as an example of how an ambitious dream can lead to an extraordinary career.
