President Bola Tinubu is heading home after a long break abroad, he will land in Nigeria on Tuesday, September 29.
He will spend Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary in Lagos as Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu is expected to receive him at the airport.
Tinubu return to Lagos ends a four-week working vacation in Europe, the Presidency sources shared the update on Sunday.
He will arrive through the presidential wing of Murtala Muhammed International Airport, he will stay in Lagos until Thursday, October 1.
That day, he will deliver a nationwide broadcast to Nigerians, which forms part of the events marking the anniversary.
A public lecture is also planned for September 30, the Federal Government has already announced the full programme.
Tinubu left Abuja for London on August 30. The Presidency first announced a three-week annual leave.
After about a week in London, he travelled to Paris, where he met French President Emmanuel Macron and businessman Vincent Bolloré.
On September 21, the Presidency said he would extend his stay, the new plan puts his return on Tuesday.
This is the second year in a row he will mark Independence Day in Lagos, last year’s parade was cancelled amid security concerns.
He stayed in touch with home during his absence, he kept receiving briefings and issuing directives on national matters.
One directive was a full and open probe into the deaths of 37 suspected illegal miners in Minna. A 10-member independent committee has since been set up.
Vice President Kashim Shettima led Nigeria’s team to the 81st UN General Assembly, he delivered the national statement on the President’s behalf.
After the celebrations, Tinubu will stay in Lagos for a few more days and is expected back in Abuja next weekend.
The return also comes as preparations for the 2027 elections gather pace; attention now shifts to his Independence Day address.
