A viral video has landed a police officer in serious trouble this week, he is now facing disciplinary action for controversial comments.
The Lagos State Police Command confirmed the development in an official statement, his remarks targeted former Anambra governor Peter Obi directly.
This Peter Obi ethnic remarks controversy began after a video surfaced online in which the officer, identified as Inspector Osumah Frank, was recorded in a public vehicle.
He was heard claiming that an Igbo person could never become Nigeria’s president, his comments quickly drew widespread criticism across social media.
According to reports, the officer accused Obi of serious criminal allegations, he also claimed Obi would turn Aso Rock into an illegal operations hub if elected.
Passengers speaking Igbo were heard condemning his remarks in the background, while many online questioned how a uniformed officer could speak this way publicly.
This Peter Obi ethnic remarks controversy pushed the Lagos Command into swift action, police confirmed disciplinary proceedings have already begun against the officer.
Police spokesperson Abimbola Adebisi addressed the matter directly. “The Command has commenced appropriate disciplinary action against the officer in line with established regulations of the Nigeria Police Force,” she said.
She clarified that his comments do not reflect the force’s official stance.
“It also wishes to make it clear that the statements made by the officer were made in his personal capacity and do not represent the position, views or official disposition of the Lagos State Police Command or the Nigeria Police Force,” Adebisi added.
Commissioner of Police Tijani Fatai reinforced expectations for officer conduct, Adebisi said he stressed the importance of professionalism and public respect.
She explained his message about wearing the uniform responsibly. “The Command will not condone any conduct capable of bringing the Force into disrepute or undermining public confidence in the Police,” Adebisi said.
The Command reaffirmed its commitment to accountability going forward, this incident comes amid rising political tension ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.
