Nigeria soon found a response through George Ilenikhena, who marked his senior debut with a goal.
The young forward struck in added time before the break to bring the Super Eagles level. His goal changed the mood inside the stadium as Nigeria returned for the second half with greater urgency.
The hosts continued to push forward after the restart and controlled much of the midfield battle.
Captain Wilfred Ndidi and Alex Iwobi helped Nigeria keep the pressure on the Malagasy defence.
Moses Usor then completed the turnaround with a brilliant second-half finish.
The debutant showed confidence as he went past two defenders before beating the goalkeeper at the near post.
The two debutants therefore became the match-winners for Nigeria on a memorable night in Uyo.
The Super Eagles AFCON 2027 campaign now begins with three important points in Group L.
Nigeria’s opening victory is also significant because Victor Osimhen missed the game through injury.
Despite his absence, Chelle’s side found enough attacking quality to complete the comeback.
The Super Eagles will now turn their attention to Guinea-Bissau for their next Group L fixture.
