Good news is coming for Nigerian electricity users: the Minister of Power has ruled out any immediate tariff increase.
Joseph Tegbe made this clear during a media briefing in Abuja, which marked his first 100 days in office.

Tegbe addressed the rumors directly during Monday’s briefing, and he confirmed receiving several calls over the weekend about the issue.
According to him, those reports were politically driven, he linked the timing to next year’s general elections.
Tegbe insisted the government’s real focus remains on improving power supply, he said tariff increases are simply not part of current plans.

He revealed that the government is pushing renewable energy solutions nationwide, officials are also conducting a detailed audit of existing power systems.
The audit aims to identify critical gaps across the sector, Tegbe said this will help guide future improvements more effectively.
His comments come amid growing questions about the power sector’s finances, many have raised concerns about long-term government support for electricity supply.
Tegbe explained that the sector’s challenges go beyond generation alone, he said multiple issues across the value chain must be addressed together.
According to him, simply boosting power generation won’t solve everything, the entire system, he said, needs coordinated attention and reform.
As his first 100 days wrap up, Tegbe reaffirmed his commitment to reform, he assured Nigerians that stability, not sudden hikes, remains the priority.
