The Nigeria Police Force is stepping up preparations for the 2027 General Elections with fresh training for officers.
Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu said the training will help improve officers’ skills and readiness.
Disu also revealed that police training is being made uniform across the country.
“We have commenced training of our officers, and the training will be standardised all over the nation.”
The move is part of efforts to build a better-prepared police force ahead of the 2027 elections.
The IGP also spoke about the planned implementation of State Policing in Nigeria.
According to him, the Nigeria Police Force will remain superior to state police structures.
He said this arrangement would help prevent conflicts between the two levels of policing.
Disu noted that Nigeria had studied policing systems used in other countries before considering the model.
He added that the reported success of similar systems elsewhere provided useful lessons for Nigeria.
The police leadership also plans to hold a summit before the end of the year which is to be held in Owerri. The summit will focus on educating officers and preparing them for upcoming responsibilities and assessments.
Technology is another major part of the police reform plan, Disu said the force must embrace new ideas and invest in technology to improve police operations.
Such tools are expected to help officers perform their duties more effectively and respond better to security challenges.
The 2027 elections police preparation therefore combines training, technology and a new approach to policing.
The goal is to ensure officers are better prepared for election duties and other security responsibilities.
