A police officer has raised fresh concerns over cybercrime and harmful online activity among secondary school students in Delta State.
CSP Setemi Agbede-Zuokumor made the disclosure while speaking about a school outreach conducted by her team.
She said officers seized several smartphones after discovering troubling digital activities among some students.
The devices reportedly included iPhone 15, iPhone 16 and Samsung smartphones. Some students were also allegedly accessing inappropriate material during school hours.
The officer said one student’s phone raised further concerns during the inspection. She alleged that it contained private images involving female classmates.
According to her, the student also had more than 85 Australian phone numbers linked to suspected online fraud activities.
She claimed the student allegedly sold private material for as much as ₦500,000.
However, the allegations have not been independently verified.
The officer said some parents later visited her office seeking the return of their children’s seized phones.
“Most of these students are using iPhone 15 and 16, while their parents are petty business owners,” she said.
She expressed concern about the growing exposure of young people to cybercrime and harmful online behaviour.
The officer also warned that such activities could have serious consequences for students, families and society.
“This is the destruction of this generation,” she said.
The reported incident has renewed calls for stronger digital safety education in schools.
Parents and teachers are also being urged to monitor children’s online activities.
