Former President Goodluck Jonathan has received a new traditional title from the Bauchi Emirate Council. The honour recognises his contributions to democracy, peace and national unity.
The Emir of Bauchi, Dr Rilwanu Sulaiman Adamu, conferred the ‘Jigon Bauchi’ title on Jonathan. The ceremony took place at the Emir’s Palace during the former president’s visit to Bauchi.
The honour attracted government officials, traditional rulers, political leaders and other dignitaries. Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed also led a delegation to the palace.
The Emir described Jonathan as a leader committed to peace and democratic values. He also praised the former president’s role in promoting unity across Nigeria.
Governor Mohammed similarly welcomed the decision by the Bauchi Emirate Council. He said Jonathan’s contributions to Nigeria’s democracy deserved recognition.
Meanwhile, Jonathan expressed gratitude to the Emir and people of Bauchi State. He described the traditional title as an honour he would cherish.
“I deeply appreciate this honour and the confidence reposed in me by the Bauchi Emirate. I will respect the customs and traditions of the Emirate Council and uphold the values associated with this title,” he said.
Jonathan also pledged to respect the traditions and values attached to the Jigon Bauchi title. He said the recognition would strengthen his commitment to peace and national unity.
