Police Leadership Strengthened as PSC Approves 93 Promotions to Enhance Collaboration Across Commands

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the promotion of 93 senior police officers to higher ranks.

The promotions followed a written examination and oral interview conducted at the Commission’s Corporate Headquarters in Abuja. The decisions were approved during the PSC’s plenary meeting held on Wednesday.

The PSC police promotions have attracted attention because they affect key operational commanders across several state commands and specialized units. Furthermore, the exercise is expected to strengthen leadership within the force as the newly promoted officers take on greater responsibilities.

A statement issued by PSC spokesman, Ikechukwu Ani, confirmed that the promotions formed part of major resolutions reached during the Commission’s meeting.

According to the statement, 13 Commissioners of Police were promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police.

Those elevated include Itam Nnaghe Obono of the Counter Terrorism Unit, Bassey Samuel Ewah of Plateau State Command and Osagie John Agans-Irabor of FCID Lagos.

 

Others promoted are Monday Agbonika of Edo State Command, Iyamah Daniel Adebor of Bayelsa State Command and Isa Danladi Nda of Abia State Command.

Also promoted were Akaninyene Ezima, Livingstein Ikioye Orutugu, Afegbua B. Rashid, Edozie Hycenth Azuka, Haruna Alaba Yahaya, Emenari Ifeanyi Innocent and Betty Enekpen Otimenyin.

Moreover, 17 Deputy Commissioners of Police were elevated to the rank of Commissioner of Police after successfully completing the promotion process.

The new Commissioners include Nelson Nwamanna, Bolanle A. Murtala, Danbaba Mohammed Labbo, Ajayi Oluyemi, Oki Rita Oyintare and Ibrahim Umar Zungura.

In addition, several operational commanders from different zones and state commands also received promotions during the exercise.

 

Meanwhile, the Commission approved the promotion of 28 Assistant Commissioners of Police to the rank of Deputy Commissioner of Police.

Among those promoted are Ofili Felix, Mohammed Baba-Mala, Deborah O. Benary, Mohammed Sani Musa, Lot Garba Lantoh, Ijeoma Princewill Onyema, Oyedepo Olubisi, Amanyi Christopher and Regina Mbanefo.

Furthermore, 33 Chief Superintendents of Police were elevated to the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police.

The list includes Mustapha Lawal, Gafar Ajayi Adeyanju and Nnamdi Lotanna Anabike, among several other officers across the country.

The Commission also confirmed the appointments of 162 Assistant Superintendents of Police II to the substantive rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police I.

Consequently, the latest exercise reflects the Commission’s continued effort to reward competence and strengthen leadership within the Nigeria Police Force.

 

Speaking after the promotions were approved, Chairman of the Commission, retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police Hashimu Salihu Argungu, congratulated the officers on their career advancement.

He urged them to remain committed to professionalism, transparency and accountability while carrying out their responsibilities.

Argungu also advised the officers to stay away from civil disputes, especially land-related matters, which often generate public complaints.

He reminded them that integrity remains one of the most valuable qualities expected of every police officer.

“Guide your reputation and integrity. Let your actions speak for you and not against you,” Argungu said.

The PSC police promotions are expected to strengthen command structures across the country while improving operational efficiency in different formations.
