The operation was carried out by personnel of the Violence Crime Response Unit, VCRU, alongside military troops. According to security sources, the mission followed intelligence reports on the movement of armed bandits within Gambanda Forest.

The operation reportedly began around 2:30 a.m. on June 20. Meanwhile, officers moved into the area after receiving credible information about suspicious activities linked to criminal elements.

As the team advanced, contact was made with the armed group. A fierce exchange of gunfire followed shortly after. However, the coordinated response from security personnel placed the attackers under pressure.

Sources said the criminals were overwhelmed by the superior firepower deployed during the operation. Consequently, they abandoned their mission and escaped deeper into the forest.

Some of the fleeing suspects were believed to have sustained gunshot injuries during the encounter. However, security agencies have continued efforts to track their movements.

In addition, one AK-47 rifle and 15 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition were seized. The items were recovered as security teams secured the forest corridor.
