Army Foils Kidnap Operation, Frees 23 Abducted Passengers in Kogi

A dramatic military operation has led to the rescue of 23 kidnapped passengers after armed men reportedly blocked a major road in Kogi State and attacked unsuspecting travelers in the early hours of Monday.

The incident, which unfolded along the Ayegunle-Bunu Road in Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area, left several commuters injured.

However, a swift response by troops of the Nigerian Army helped prevent what could have become a much larger tragedy.

According to security sources, the attackers struck at about 3:30 a.m. when many travelers were making their way through the area. The armed men reportedly barricaded the road and opened fire on passing vehicles before abducting several passengers.

The operation began shortly after security agencies received a distress call from the scene. Troops attached to the 12 Brigade in Kabba were immediately mobilized and deployed to the affected area.

Meanwhile, reports indicate that the attackers had already escaped before the soldiers arrived. Nevertheless, military personnel quickly launched a search operation across nearby routes believed to have been used by the fleeing suspects.

Military analyst Deji Adesogan disclosed that troops discovered disturbing scenes upon arrival. Two bodies were reportedly recovered from the area. In addition, five injured victims were found and provided immediate assistance.

Several vehicles were also discovered abandoned at the scene. These reportedly included two Toyota buses and a HOWO truck. The findings highlighted the scale of the attack and the fear experienced by travelers caught in the incident.

Furthermore, soldiers intensified efforts to track the kidnappers through nearby forests and escape paths. The pressure from the advancing troops reportedly forced the suspects to abandon their captives.

As a result, 23 kidnapped passengers were rescued alive and safely evacuated by military personnel. The successful outcome brought relief to families and residents who had feared the worst.

The injured victims were subsequently taken to St. Joseph Hospital in Kabba for medical treatment. Medical personnel are said to be monitoring their recovery.

Moreover, security agencies have continued surveillance activities across the region. Additional clearance operations are also being carried out to prevent future attacks and strengthen public safety.

The rescue has drawn attention because of the speed of the military response and the number of lives saved. However, concerns remain over recurring attacks on highways across parts of the country.

In addition, authorities are urging members of the public to remain alert and promptly report suspicious movements.
