The Nigeria Police Force has begun a transition to green energy.
The development was confirmed on April 21, 2026, when three specialized buses were officially handed over.
The vehicles were donated by the Nigeria Police Trust Fund and the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas and Electric Vehicles.
Meanwhile, the event drew key stakeholders from both organizations. Officials present highlighted that this donation marks only the beginning of a long-term plan.
According to officials, the plan includes converting police vehicles to Compressed Natural Gas systems. This approach is expected to lower expenses and reduce environmental impact.
Beyond equipment, training programs are also being introduced. These programs are designed to build internal capacity for maintenance and operations.

Responding at the event, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, expressed appreciation for the support. He described the initiative as both timely and necessary for the future of policing.
He stated that “the transition to CNG and electric vehicles is a strategic necessity that aligns the Nigeria Police Force with global best practices in logistics and resource management.”
The IGP also assured that the newly acquired buses would improve movement and welfare of officers.
Meanwhile, stakeholders explained that this collaboration goes beyond immediate gains.
The ceremony ended with the official handover of keys and inspection of the vehicles.
