Tinubu Cancels Plans, Heads to Plateau Before Ogun visit

President Bola Tinubu has adjusted his schedule to visit Plateau State following a deadly attack that shocked the nation.

The Tinubu Plateau visit comes after gunmen attacked communities in Jos, leading to the loss of several lives.

However, the president’s visit is aimed at showing support to grieving families and reassuring residents.

Moreover, the visit signals a shift from routine engagements to a more hands-on approach in addressing security challenges.

According to a statement released by Bayo Onanuga, the president’s special adviser on information and strategy, the visit is meant to express sympathy. He noted that Tinubu would meet with the state government and affected communities.

Meanwhile, the president had earlier received Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang at the Presidential Villa. The governor briefed him on the situation and the steps taken so far to restore calm.

Speaking after the meeting, Mutfwang described the attack as deeply troubling. He said, “What happened on Sunday evening was quite unfortunate, but the situation has been brought under control now.”

Furthermore, he explained that efforts had been made to manage the aftermath. “We’ve been able to evacuate corpses to the mortuary. Some families have already buried their de@d ones.” He added that a curfew had been imposed and later relaxed to ease movement.

However, the governor admitted that the attackers have not yet been identified. “Unfortunately, we’ve not been able to lay hands on the attackers yet to know their identities and their motive,” he said.

He stressed that the incident should be seen as criminal. “We are seeing this as an act of criminality. It’s barbaric. We condemn it.”

In addition, Mutfwang revealed that some unrest occurred again on Wednesday morning. Looters reportedly attempted to take advantage of the situation. However, security forces were able to restore order quickly.

Meanwhile, after the Tinubu Plateau visit, the president is expected to continue with other official engagements.

He will travel to Ogun State to commission a cargo airport and new aircraft aimed at boosting trade.

Moreover, he is scheduled to inaugurate several projects in Lagos, including key infrastructure developments. These activities are expected to continue through the Easter period.

Therefore, while governance continues, the focus remains on restoring peace in Plateau State. The president’s visit is expected to bring attention to the need for stronger security measures.
