An assurance has been given by President Bola Tinubu amid growing frustration over poor electricity supply.
At a time when many Nigerians are struggling with constant outages, the promise has sparked mixed reactions.
Moreover, the announcement came during the APC National Convention in Abuja.
Speaking at the event, Tinubu acknowledged the concerns raised by Nigerians. He admitted that electricity challenges remain a major issue.
“I assure you, many of you lamenting the problem of electricity and power; we are paying attention to that,” he said.
Furthermore, he emphasized that efforts are already being made to improve the situation. According to him, noticeable progress will soon be seen.
“Electricity will become better, and we assure you there will be opportunities and progress in our industrialisation.
Through the Grid Asset Management Company, we will inject approximately 1,500 megawatts into a new grid corridor,” the president said.
Tinubu also used the platform to defend his economic reforms. These include fuel subsidy removal and exchange rate unification.
He noted that while the reforms are tough, they are necessary. According to him, the country is already seeing positive results.
“The impact of our programmes is visible, tangible, impactful, and measurable not mere rhetoric as some opposition elements like to suggest. We are moving from survival mode to stability.”
In addition, he highlighted improvements in investor confidence. He also pointed to increased interest in the oil and gas sector.
“Our Eurobond issuance was oversubscribed by 400%, and Nigeria has exited the financial ‘grey list’, marking a return to global financial credibility,” he said.
Despite these assurances, many Nigerians remain cautious. The power sector has faced long-standing issues over the years.
Meanwhile, frequent outages continue to affect daily life and business operations. Therefore, expectations are high for immediate results.
