Oyo APC Tensions Not a Crisis, Morka Insists

The All Progressives Congress despite growing talk of internal tension. The party has moved quickly to address rising concerns.

In what many expected to escalate into a major issue, the APC has dismissed reports of crisis in Oyo State.

Speaking during an interview, APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka addressed the situation directly. He explained that what is being seen is part of routine political engagement.

“It’s not about crisis. It’s about people doing what they are supposed to do, which is take interest and assert themselves to those who are interested in running for offices. That’s what’s going on. It’s nothing to worry about; it’s normal banter at this point, nothing official yet,” he said.

According to him, disagreements are natural in a large political party. Therefore, such developments should not be mistaken for serious conflict.

“We are the largest party in this country, and maybe on the continent. When you gather so many people together to pass through a narrow process of selection for those who govern the party, you are almost necessarily bound to have disagreements and competition,” he stated.

Meanwhile, attention has also been drawn to claims surrounding a payment of N5.1 million by an aspirant. However, the party clarified its position on the matter.

Morka stressed that all financial contributions are made voluntarily. In addition, he explained that clear guidelines are always provided.

“No, we don’t ‘collect’. We publish information, guidelines, and rules that govern (the process), and we put an account number as we are required to do. Every individual who pays money chooses to pay. When they pay that money, they are presumed to already be fully aware and conscious of all the rules that apply,” he said.

Furthermore, he noted that the party remains open to resolving any concerns raised by members. This includes issues related to payments.

“But once they pay, these are party men that we respect. If there are issues that concern them, they are able to come to the party and have conversations. Whether it’s about refunding the money or something else, those are possibilities,” Morka noted.

The APC Oyo crisis claims have therefore been downplayed as internal competition. Meanwhile, party leaders are focusing on unity.

Looking ahead, the APC is preparing for its upcoming convention.

“Nigerians should expect a strong statement by the All Progressives Congress   really consolidating its structures as a political party and enacting its vision going forward,” he added.
