“What a privilege and crazy fun it was working with this man and calling him my friend to the end … may his Legacy continue to shine on,” she concluded.
Born in Greenwich, Connecticut, in 1951, Noonan began his career in theater. He appeared in the original Off-Broadway production of Sam Shepard’s Buried Child in 1978.
His big-screen debut came in 1980 with Willie & Phil. That same year, he appeared in Gloria and Heaven’s Gate.
However, his breakout role arrived in 1986. He portrayed the chilling antagonist Francis Dolarhyde in the crime thriller Manhunter.
One year later, he starred as Frankenstein’s monster in The Monster Squad. Director Fred Dekker later paid tribute, calling him “a highlight of my modest filmography.”
“He was the proverbial gentleman and scholar, and the world has lost a great talent,” Dekker wrote. “R.I.P. Tom. Thanks for the great work.”
Noonan later played Cain in RoboCop 2. He portrayed both the leader of the Nuke cartel and RoboCop 2 itself.
