Zamfara Governor Accuses FG of Withholding Fuel Subsidy Palliatives

Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has publicly accused the Federal Government of excluding his state from fuel subsidy palliative support.

In a video circulating online, Lawal alleged that Zamfara has not received any federal allocation meant to cushion the hardship caused by rising fuel prices and inflation.

The Zamfara fuel subsidy palliative controversy has quickly drawn national attention. The governor suggested that political differences may be responsible for the alleged exclusion.

He pointed out that he belongs to an opposition party, not the ruling All Progressives Congress. According to him, that political alignment may have influenced federal decisions.

“I know of states that have received over 500 billion Naira from the Federal Government as palliative, but I have never received anything,” the governor said. “I think the reason I don’t get it is because I’m not in APC.”

However, the Federal Government has not yet issued an official response to the allegations.

Lawal further claimed that some APC-governed states received significant financial support. These funds were reportedly meant to ease the burden of economic reforms.

Since the removal of fuel subsidy, living costs have increased nationwide. Therefore, palliative measures were introduced to reduce the impact on vulnerable citizens.

The governor stated that Zamfara has relied on its own limited resources. Food distribution and welfare initiatives have reportedly been funded internally.

Furthermore, he emphasized that the state faces ongoing security and economic challenges.

He maintained that palliative support should be distributed equally. Political affiliation, he argued, should not determine access to relief funds.
