The 16-year-old forward hopes to follow in his father’s iconic footsteps at Old Trafford.

According to The Sun, Kai Rooney is among a select group of young players offered fresh terms by Manchester United following impressive progress at the club’s academy.

The report suggests that United are preparing to offer the teenager a scholarship, which could later convert into a professional contract when he turns 17.

The proposed deal is believed to be worth around £50,000 per year, including an annual signing-on fee.

However, the news took a turn when Kai appeared to play down the reports. Just hours after the story circulated in The Sun and was picked up by the Daily Mail, the youngster issued a brief but pointed response on social media.

In an Instagram story, Kai wrote: “don’t listen to mail 😂😂😂.” The post immediately fueled speculation about whether negotiations are ongoing or if details had been exaggerated.

Kai Rooney has spent several years rising through the Manchester United academy system. He operates mainly as an attacker and is known for a style that mirrors his father’s aggressive and intelligent play.

Moreover, coaches are said to be impressed with his technical growth and maturity on the pitch.

According to The Sun, Kai is part of a “very strong” group of 14 academy players offered new deals.

The list reportedly includes Jacey Carrick, the son of former United midfielder and current interim manager Michael Carrick.

The source explained that the offers would allow the players to move into full-time football development after finishing school.

“It means when they finish school they can go into full-time ‘football employment’ and then when they turn 17 are guaranteed a pro status,” the source told The Sun. However, it is understood that the Rooney family has not yet agreed to the proposed terms.

Meanwhile, Manchester United continue to focus on rebuilding through youth development.
