Nigeria were not tipped early as title favourites. However, their form has forced a rethink across the tournament.

The Atalanta forward has been one of the standout performers in Morocco. Moreover, his influence has gone beyond goals. He has drawn defenders, created space, and unsettled organised backlines.

Speaking to Footy Africa, Lookman made his priorities clear.

“I’m always focused on the present and, at the moment, the present is being here in Morocco for AFCON and trying to help my country win the tournament,” he said. “All the experiences are in the past.”

That mindset has defined Nigeria’s run so far. The Super Eagles have scored 14 goals in five matches.

In addition, only four goals have been conceded. Two clean sheets have also been recorded.

Algeria tried to stop Lookman with tight marking in an earlier match.

However, that approach failed. Nigeria adjusted quickly. Victor Osimhen and Akor Adams took advantage. Both players found the net as Algeria’s plan unraveled.

Meanwhile, Lookman has already scored three goals in the competition. His pace and movement continue to stretch defences. Therefore, Morocco are expected to prepare carefully for him in Rabat.

The AFCON 2025 semi-final at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium carries extra weight. Morocco will enjoy home support. Nigeria, however, arrive with belief and balance.

Osimhen leads the line with authority. Alex Iwobi has controlled games from midfield areas. Adams has provided depth and finishing. Furthermore, Wilfred Ndidi and Frank Onyeka have offered stability and discipline.

At the back, Calvin Bassey and Semi Ajayi have stood firm. Goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has also impressed. His calm presence has been crucial in tight moments.

Coach Eric Chelle has been praised for his bold selections. Some choices were questioned early. Now, they appear inspired. Therefore, expectations have shifted rapidly.
