A family source confirmed the development to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Nassarawa Eggon.

According to the source, Akwashiki died in an Indian hospital on Wednesday, December 31, 2025.

The source described the loss as devastating for the people of the senatorial district.

He said Akwashiki’s death had created a major vacuum because of his dedication to development and empowerment programmes.

“Since in the history of Nasarawa North, Sen. Akwashiki was the best Senator Nasarawa North ever produced due to his purposeful leadership,” he said.

“His projects are in every nook and cranny of the constituency as he was the only Senator that re-contested and won for a second term in the zone.”

Godiya Akwashiki’s death has, however, reignited conversations about his lasting impact on grassroots politics.

During his time in office, he was widely praised for pushing projects that directly touched rural communities.

Moreover, his empowerment initiatives were often cited as models for people-focused representation.

Before his election to the Senate in 2019, Akwashiki had built a strong political base in Nasarawa State.

He served as Majority Leader and later Deputy Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly.

These roles helped shape his reputation as a disciplined lawmaker with deep legislative experience.

In addition, colleagues and constituents often described him as approachable and firm in defending the interests of his people.

Akwashiki was born on August 3, 1973, in Angba Iggah, Nassarawa Eggon, Nasarawa State.

His journey from local politics to the National Assembly was seen as inspirational, especially among young politicians in the zone.

Although funeral arrangements have not yet been announced, it is expected that a series of official activities will be organised in his honour.
