The race for the Awujale throne in Ijebuland took an unexpected turn as Fuji star Wasiu Ayinde, known globally as KWAM 1, revealed his royal ambition.

The respected musician submitted a formal letter showing interest in the Awujale stool.

He described himself as a “bonafide son” of the Fusengbuwa ruling house.

Meanwhile, the revelation pushed many to question how deep his roots truly run in Ijebu royalty.

However, the ruling house quickly stressed that interest alone is not enough for any aspirant.

The family insisted that tradition must be followed with strict steps. Abdulateef Owoyemi, chairman of the house, explained that every contender must prove their ancestry clearly.

“The first step is to declare your lineage. Your parents, grandparents, and those before them must be traced. Only genuine members of Fusengbuwa will be allowed,” Owoyemi said.

In addition, the house issued detailed lineage forms that cover seven generations.

This measure was created to protect the Awujale throne from outsiders.

According to the family, maintaining royal bloodlines remains a major priority.

Although the application window closed on December 5, KWAM 1 received a special five-day extension.

The grace period ends on December 10. Owoyemi said the house welcomes notable figures who can add value to the throne. However, he added that true lineage is non-negotiable.

The selection timeline is already tight. The ruling house must submit qualified names to the kingmakers by December 18.

Furthermore, the kingmakers will then choose one candidate within seven days.

Afterward, the chosen name will move to the Ogun State governor. A 21-day review will follow to allow security checks, background scrutiny, and objections.

The ruling house stressed that lineage checks are vital to protect the Awujale stool.

“This is about preserving tradition and ensuring that only rightful members of Fusengbuwa ascend to the Awujale position,” Owoyemi stated.

This means KWAM 1’s history will be studied closely before any progress is made.
