Barcelona’s Nou Camp Under Health Investigation After Tuberculosis Case

Barcelona FC has been thrown into an unexpected health scare as a potential tuberculosis outbreak has been reported among workers at the Nou Camp stadium.

Authorities have launched a full-scale investigation after one employee working on the renovation site tested positive for the infectious disease.

According to the Barcelona-based newspaper El País, the city’s Public Health Agency (ASPB) confirmed that one construction worker at the stadium had developed symptoms consistent with tuberculosis before medical tests later verified the diagnosis.

Tuberculosis, a bacterial infection, spreads through the air when an infected person coughs or sneezes.

Common symptoms include persistent coughing, fever, weight loss, and fatigue.

In a statement cited by El País, the ASPB confirmed that it had begun contact tracing efforts to prevent any possible spread of the infection.

“A total of 23 workers have been tested following the confirmed case,” the report stated.

However, the health authority emphasized that an outbreak would only be officially declared if two or more related cases are confirmed.

“The situation remains under control, and precautionary measures have been implemented while awaiting further results,” a source close to the investigation told the paper.

The news comes at a crucial time for the Catalan giants, who are preparing to reopen the renovated 105,000-capacity Nou Camp to the public.

The club had announced earlier this week that it would host an open training session at the stadium, with tickets already sold out for the 23,000-capacity event.

According to Barcelona FC, the session is intended as a technical and operational test ahead of the team’s official return to the ground.

“It will help ensure the proper functioning of systems, access points, and other key areas of the facility,” the club explained in a statement.

The timing of the investigation, however, has sparked concern among fans and staff as the club’s reopening plans move forward.

The ASPB has reassured the public that it is working closely with the club and local authorities to contain any possible risk.

Furthermore, health officials have urged anyone showing symptoms or who has been in contact with the infected worker to undergo testing immediately.

The situation remains under review, and updates are expected as additional test results come in.

Meanwhile, Barcelona FC has not released an official comment regarding the health scare, but sources within the club say all safety measures are being taken seriously to protect workers and the public.
