“These will be my last months on the pitch. I’m retiring very happy, proud, fulfilled, and above all grateful,” Busquets said.

“A heartfelt thank you to everyone and to football for everything. You will always be a part of this beautiful story.”

Busquets rose through the ranks at Barcelona, becoming one of the most respected defensive midfielders of his generation.

He spent the majority of his career at the Catalan club, where he lifted nine La Liga titles and three Champions League trophies.

His tactical awareness, precise passing, and ability to control the tempo of games made him an irreplaceable figure during Barcelona’s golden years.

He was part of the legendary midfield trio alongside Xavi Hernandez and Andres Iniesta, which is still regarded as one of the greatest in football history.

He earned 143 caps for Spain, anchoring the midfield during the national team’s most successful era.

He played a central role in Spain’s 2010 World Cup triumph in South Africa and the Euro 2012 victory, achievements that placed him firmly among football’s elite.

Busquets ended his international career after the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

In 2023, Busquets began a new adventure in the United States, joining Inter Miami where he reunited with his longtime Barcelona teammate Lionel Messi.

The move to Major League Soccer offered him a fresh challenge, and he played a key role in raising the profile of the league while helping shape Miami’s midfield.
