French President Emmanuel Macron has said that U.S. President Donald Trump must act to end the Gaza war if he truly wants to win the Nobel Peace Prize.
Macron made the remarks during an interview with France’s BFM TV on Tuesday, September 23, speaking from New York after the UN General Assembly.
According to the French leader, Trump is the only global figure with enough influence to pressure Israel to halt the fighting.
“There is one person who can do something about it, and that is the U.S. president,” Macron stated.
“And the reason he can do more than us, is because we do not supply weapons that allow the war in Gaza to be waged… The United States of America does.”
The comments came shortly after Trump delivered a fiery speech at the UN.
The American president dismissed international calls for Palestinian statehood, arguing such recognition would reward Hamas militants.
However, he also told world leaders, “We have to stop the war in Gaza immediately. We have to immediately negotiate peace.”
Macron reflected on Trump’s address, stressing that words must be matched with concrete action.
“I see an American president who is involved, who reiterated this morning from the podium: ‘I want peace. I have resolved seven conflicts,’ who wants the Nobel Peace Prize.
The Nobel Peace Prize is only possible if you stop this conflict,” Macron remarked.
His comments underline the pressure on Trump to move beyond speeches if he is serious about his ambition to join the ranks of Nobel laureates.
Four U.S. presidents have won the award in the past.
Trump has already received nominations from countries including Cambodia, Israel, and Pakistan for his role in brokering peace pacts and ceasefires.
He has previously argued that his achievements on the global stage merit the accolade.
Moreover, the businessman has often highlighted his foreign policy successes, insisting they have brought stability to regions long plagued by violence.
Meanwhile, the White House strongly defended Trump following Macron’s remarks.
Spokeswoman Anna Kelly declared, “President Trump has done more for peace than everyone present at the United Nations combined. Only this president could have accomplished so much for global stability because he has effectively Made America Strong Again.”
The clash of opinions reflects the broader global debate about Trump’s role in the ongoing Gaza crisis.
Macron tells Trump Nobel Peace Prize dreams remain distant unless he can push Israel and Palestine toward a ceasefire.
