The unexpected incident occurred late Friday night in Lagos after a full day of intense cooking and celebration.
Once the jollof rice was ready, organizers brought in a crane to raise the gigantic 22,619-litre pot onto a scale.
However, the smooth flow of the event turned chaotic when the pot gave way under its own weight, collapsing midway.
Supporters who had gathered to witness history screamed in panic as the crane operator was quickly ordered to halt the lift to avoid further damage or injury.
