EKEDC Announces Extended Power Disruption Across Lagos from July 28

LAGOS — Residents and businesses in parts of Lagos are set to experience a daily power outage for three weeks starting Monday, July 28, 2025.

This comes after the Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) announced a planned maintenance by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).

According to EKEDC, the outage will last from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. each day through Thursday, August 21, 2025.

The affected area covers the company’s entire operational zone, including Lagos Island, Lekki, Apapa, Surulere, and Festac.

The disruption is to allow the TCN carry out critical repairs on the Omotosho–Ikeja West 330kV transmission line.

This line plays a major role in electricity distribution across Lagos and its surrounding areas.

In a statement released on Friday via social media, EKEDC confirmed the development.

“This planned outage by our partner, Transmission Company of Nigeria, will impact supply across our entire coverage area,” the company stated.

Moreover, the period of the outage cuts across busy business weeks, making it a challenge for both small and large enterprises.

“This maintenance is necessary for better service delivery in the long run,” the company added. “We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience this may cause and appeal to all our valued customers to kindly bear with us.”

While specific locations were not listed in the notice, past outages tied to similar repairs have affected major commercial zones. Areas like Victoria Island and Lekki are known for their business activities, making the outage a serious concern.

Furthermore, the company advised residents to plan ahead.

It recommended using alternative power sources and limiting consumption during peak hours.

The project is part of a wider national strategy to improve Nigeria’s power transmission infrastructure.

These upgrades are aimed at reducing system losses and improving supply consistency.
Meanwhile, EKEDC has urged the public to stay updated via its verified communication platforms.

Any changes to the schedule or early restoration of power will be communicated accordingly.
