House Passes Trump’s Big Spending Bill After All-Night Drama

The US House of Representatives has approved President Donald Trump’s sweeping domestic policy bill.

The legislation was passed on Thursday in a narrow 218–214 vote, marking a major milestone in Trump’s second-term agenda.

The bill, already approved earlier in the week by the Senate, now heads to the president’s desk for signing.

It includes a mix of large-scale tax cuts, increased defense and border security funding, and controversial spending cuts to long-standing social programs.

However, the vote passing almost strictly along party lines, 212 Democrats opposed the bill entirely.

They were joined by two Republicans, Reps. Thomas Massie of Kentucky and Brian Fitzpatrick of Pennsylvania, who also voted against it.

“Today we are laying a key cornerstone of America’s new golden age,” said House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., in a speech moments before the vote.

The almost 1,000-page legislation represents a bold shift in federal government priorities.

In contrast, it directs major investments into national defense, tax reliefs, and immigration enforcement.

Trump played an aggressive role in pushing the bill through.

He reportedly called lawmakers to the White House for talks on Wednesday and repeatedly urged action on his social media platforms.

“Largest Tax Cuts in History and a Booming Economy vs. Biggest Tax Increase in History, and a Failed Economy,” Trump wrote just after midnight.

“What are the Republicans waiting for??? What are you trying to prove??? MAGA IS NOT HAPPY, AND IT’S COSTING YOU VOTES!!!”

Despite challenges within the Republican caucus, party leaders worked overnight to secure the needed support to pass the bill before July 4, as requested by the president.

Trump’s policy bill also aims to make permanent the tax cuts passed during his first term, fulfilling a core promise from his reelection campaign.
