The Nigerian Police Force has been thrown into mourning following the tragic death of Inspector Afolabi Adeola, who was hit by a speeding truck while on duty at a checkpoint along the Abeokuta–Sagamu Motorway in Ogun State.
The heartbreaking incident occurred around 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 29, near the Judiciary Complex checkpoint in Abeokuta.
The truck, reportedly carrying 900 bags of cement, was said to be approaching the checkpoint at high speed.
It first crashed into a stationary truck that had stopped in compliance with police traffic control before tragically hitting Inspector Adeola.
According to eyewitnesses, the officer sustained critical injuries from the impact.
He was immediately rushed to a hospital in Lagos for urgent medical care.

Sadly, despite medical efforts, Inspector Adeola died on Monday, June 30, shortly after undergoing an X-ray examination.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama shared details of the event on his verified X (Twitter) handle.
“Officers from the traffic unit visited the scene, documented the crash, and recovered both vehicles to the station for further investigation,” he posted.
Moreover, it was confirmed that the suspects involved in the crash are expected to appear in court on Wednesday, July 3, where legal proceedings will begin.
However, the development has sparked renewed concerns over reckless driving and truck safety on Nigerian highways.
